Elvis has influenced our society big time through his style of music and dance. When Elvis first came out, he often came on the radio for interviews and some people mistook him to be a man of color due to the way he sang/sounded. On the air, radio MC's would often ask him what school he attended because back then everything was segregated. Elvis would say which high school he went to to ensure the people who were listening that he was white. Elvis had his own original style. He was considered to have an obscene sense of dance and lyrics. From the way he dressed to the way he sang, he was one of a kind. By the way he stepped out of the box, he took a huge risk. No parent back in the day would let their child listen to his music because it was out of the ordinary. His music was considered "devilish". Elvis influenced our society now by stepping out of the box, all artists today are not afraid of being original and having their own sense of individualism. For instance, artists like Gwen Stefani, Neyo, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Beyonce, etc. are not afraid to be original based on their sound of music. More and more artists today are coming out with their own sense of style that would have never been invented if Elvis, the king of rock n' roll, would have never been afraid to be original.

I agree -- Elvis was an original, and his example has encouraged other musicians to develop their sound and sense of style.
