Misery Business
Lyrics to Misery Business :I'm in the business of misery,
Let's take it from the top.
She's got a body like an hourglass that's ticking like a clock.
It's a matter of time before we all run out,
When I thought he was mine she caught him by the mouth.
I waited eight long months, She finally set him free.
I told him I can't lie he was the only one for me.
Two weeks and we had caught on fire,
She's got it out for me,
But I wear the biggest smile.
[Chorus:]
Whoa, I never meant to brag But, I
got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
To steal it all away from you now.
But god does it feel so good,
Cause I got him where I want him now.
And if you could then you know you would.
Cause god it just feels so...
It just feels so good.
Second chances they don't ever matter, people never change.
Once a whore you're nothing more, I'm sorry, that'll never change.
And about forgiveness, we're both supposed to have exchanged
I'm sorry honey, but I'm passing up, now look this way.
Well there's a million other girls who do it just like you.
Looking as innocent as possible to get to who,
They want and what they like it's easy if you do it right.
Well I refuse, I refuse, I refuse!
Whoa, I never meant to brag But, I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
To steal it all away from you now.
But god does it feel so good,
Cause I got him where I want him right now.
And if you could then you know you would.
Cause god it just feels so...
It just feels so good.
I watched his wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving you
Just watch my wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving.
Whoa, I never meant to brag, but I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, I never meant to brag But, I got him where I want him now.
Whoa, it was never my intention to brag
To steal it all away from you now.
But god does it feel so good,
Cause I got him where I want him now.
And if you could then you know you would.
Cause god it just feels so...
It just feels so good.
Lyrics Analysis:
I picked the song Misery Business by Paramore because I find this song funny and I see myself doing what she describes in the song. This song talks about a current girlfriend, the lead singer, the boyfriend, and the boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend. This song is very literal and easy to analyze. The lead singer of Paramore, Hayley, is the current girlfriend in this song and is describing her experience about a situation in her life. The song describes her boyfriend being wanted by his ex-girlfriend, but as Hayley’s character in the song, she refuses to let her boyfriend go. In addition, she rubs it in the ex-girlfriends face how happy they are. Hayley also makes fun of the ex-girlfriend by degrading her by stating, “Once a whore, you’re nothing more, I’m sorry that’ll never change”.
I like this song because I can totally picture myself bragging about how happy I am with my boyfriend. Ironically, this has happened to me before. My current boyfriend used to date this girl, but they dated for merely only one month and decided to break up with her because of me. She found out about it and tried everything she possibly could to get him back. The type of person that I am, I like to face challenges. She did things like call him, or try to hang out with the same crowd just to get his attention but it did not work because I was always there. She was quite pathetic. As a result, my boyfriend's ex-girlfriend tried everything she could to get him back but it did not work because my boyfriend and I have been going out for almost four years now and were as happy as ever. She was really never a factor and did not get in the way. The lyrics to this song made me start listening to this band because I can relate.

AT exercise 8.3
1. My number one top value is education. My education is the key to my future because without higher knowledge, it can only get me so far. The higher the education, the higher the job position.
2. My number two top value is my family. Without the support by my family, I would not be where I am today. My mother is my main role model because she is a strong woman that raised five children all by herself. She can do it all which sets a example for me.
3. My number three top value is my future. By planning my future now so I can know an outline of my future, it will save me from wasting time and give me a heads up for what is to come.
4. My number four top value is wealth. I plan to have a successful future in the Medical Department which can result to me having a lot of money.
5. My number five top value is my spiritual beliefs. I am Catholic and I try to go to church every Sunday to worship God.
AT exercise 8.2
1. My first dream is to be filthy rich! I hope to be rich in the near future because I want to be able to start my own family and be able to support myself. I also want to be rich because after everything my mom has done for me, I would want to pay her back for everything.
2. My second dream is to be successful in the future. I intend to be a Pediatrician in the future because I love children and on top of that I get paid a lot for doing what I love.
3. My third dream is to be able to have the dream wedding I have always wanted. I plan to marry the guy of my dreams, my boyfriend of almost four years, on March 21, 2015. We intend to get married at a beach. I plan to have a small intimate wedding with only my closest family and friends.
4. My fourth dream is to have my dream house with a picket fence, a garden, and a nice big backyard with a pool. I want to be able to live comfortable and be able to afford such a nice possession.
5. My fifth dream is to have three kids at the most. And plan to have twins, if possible. I love children because I have two little sisters that I have raised and understand the hardship of having a child.

I never really got the chance to like Janet Jackson, therefore, I do not like any of her songs.
7. The Fray-She Is

a. Attitude/behaviors towards students
My English professor is an absolute college/friend. She is very outgoing and she tends to talk to me like I'm just a friend, not just as a student. She is very funny and she constantly talks to the whole class like we're just friends.
b. Instructional methods used
My English professor uses class discussions and a lot of group work.
c. Types of assignments and activities
The homework she gives us for this class is for us, as students, to act like a professor and we constantly grade papers. In our book, you can find many summary paragraphs and essays that we constantly have to grade to compare and contrast the difference of a paper that grades a 6 to a paper that grades a 3.
d. Types of examinations
The tests/midterms in this class are essays, including the final exam.
e. Course policies
This class is a remedial class which means that attendance is mandatory.

A little tip #6
a little something about Fever

In the Fever by Tim Riley mentions how rock n' roll transformed gender in America. "The evolution of Tina Turner's image over a half-century reflects the way men have traditionally cast women in pop, and prefigures women's defiant response in the sixties and afterward. Her role fronting the Ike and Tina Turner Revenue typified the plight of women acts: she was managed by a male producer who told her how to dress, fed her songs written by male show-biz impresarios and arrangers" (Riley, p.52). I find this quotation/paragraph very interesting because I never knew that women taking a lead role started from Tina Turner. I never knew that Tina Turner really did anything to change the way pop culture viewed women. It is amazing to find out the fact that Tina Turner surfaced around the time when discrimination was still going on and she managed to come out on top even though she was African American. Thanks to Tina, men and women are viewed equally when it comes to talent.

ASU passage from chapter 6

Ever since rock n' roll came out, the adults back then did not approve of the horrid lyrics that rock n' rollers sang about. Although it was unique, it was viewed as sexually explicit. According to Glenn Altschuler's All Shook Up, "Initially, the Beatles were reluctant to reignite the culture wars that had been so damaging to rock n' roll. They strove to appeal to teenagers without annoying adults. The lyrics of the group's early hits---'Love Me Do,' 'She Loves You,' and 'I Want to Hold Your Hand'---were no more sexually threatening than some of the music dismissed by critics as "treacle" a few years earlier. In choosing The Ed Sullivan Show for their first televised appearance in the United States, the Beatles hoped to win a seal of approval as middle-class family entertainment." This passage that can be found in Chapter 6, page 182-183 explains how musicians are willing to change their whole image just to be able to please adults. By pleasing adults, they buy the votes of the adults as well as their children. Even though rock n' roll was trying to make its big break back then, they were not able to expand because their audience were not as much as they wanted because parents would prevent their young teenage children listen to the vulgar music.
book recommendation

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen is a great novel! It is about a character named Jacob Jankowski and his life struggles. The author explains how Jacob goes from being old age to his past life when he ran away and worked for the circus. This book has a tendency to grab attention because it keeps you wanting to know what is going to happen next. First, the book started talking about Jacob's life when he was older, suffering for old age and having a tendency to forget everything. It talks about him being in an old folks home and him trying to cope with the fact that none of his family members care for him anymore. While he is there, he reminisces about the past when he used to work for the circus. From chapter to chapter, it jumps from Jacob being old to him being young again. As he was younger, he attended one of the top veterinary schools and was close to graduating with a veterinary degree. Before he attempted to take his exams, he found out that his parents got into a huge car accident and died. When his parents died, he found out that his parents left him to be in great debt due to paying for his medical school. As a result, he ended up running away. He ended up being a part of the circus. He experiences a lot of things in the circus that helps him along the way. I greatly recommend Water for Elephants because it is a great book. You will not regret picking up this book and start reading; the only thing you will regret is the fact that if you don't read it!

ELViS

Elvis has influenced our society big time through his style of music and dance. When Elvis first came out, he often came on the radio for interviews and some people mistook him to be a man of color due to the way he sang/sounded. On the air, radio MC's would often ask him what school he attended because back then everything was segregated. Elvis would say which high school he went to to ensure the people who were listening that he was white. Elvis had his own original style. He was considered to have an obscene sense of dance and lyrics. From the way he dressed to the way he sang, he was one of a kind. By the way he stepped out of the box, he took a huge risk. No parent back in the day would let their child listen to his music because it was out of the ordinary. His music was considered "devilish". Elvis influenced our society now by stepping out of the box, all artists today are not afraid of being original and having their own sense of individualism. For instance, artists like Gwen Stefani, Neyo, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Beyonce, etc. are not afraid to be original based on their sound of music. More and more artists today are coming out with their own sense of style that would have never been invented if Elvis, the king of rock n' roll, would have never been afraid to be original.

fancy artsy

San Jose States Martin Luther King Jr. Library is known to have a lot of fancy arts within the facility. There are over ten art collections that you can find in the library. One fancy thing that caught my attention was the Fiction/Fiction. It is a secret rotating bookshelf. One side contains faux mystery books, the other with current popular-fiction titles. This particular art work caught my attention because I always saw movies that had rotating bookshelves that I never knew existed. It was surprising; yet, amazing.
memorable music
Over time, the type of music that I like has not really changed all that much but it did, just a little bit. When i was younger, about five years old till about thirteen years old, I was totally into pop music such as The Spice Girls & The Backstreet Boys. Then, all of a sudden, Brittney Spears & N'Sync came out, then I started listening to them. All of these pop music groups all sound the same but they are different in a way. The Spice Girls & The Backstreet Boys were attention grabbers because nobody really ever came out at that time that produced pop music like them. I loved the Spice Girls and always wished that I was one of the Spice Girls! ;) They were the "cool & hip ones" at the time. They had a sense of style and attitude. On the other hand, the Backstreet Boys were the total "HOT BOYBAND" back in the day. Every girl wanted to have a Backstreet Boy as a boyfriend, including me! They were so cute! And on top of that, they had amazing voices! After the Spice Girls & the Backstreet Boys' era, then came Brittney Spears and N'Sync.
Now, Brittney Spears may not be in a pop group, but a solo artist, she shook up the stage! She was amazing!
I remember seeing her in concert when I was in the fifth grade and almost lost my voice screaming and crying just because I was in the front row! She was the total icon of a young girl like me. She was cute, sexy, and had an amazing voice. Then, the same as the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync was also a boy band pop group that sang and dance. I was totally in love with all of them, Justin Timberlake, J.C. Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass (See I still even know all of their names). As I got a little older, music artists like 3LW, and a lot of rappers started hitting it big. The only reason why I started listening to rap was because my older uncle, only five years older than me, was into all those kinds of music. As a result, he got me listening to Q-tip, Andre Nickatina, etc. It didn't take that long for me to start getting into hip hop and R&B.
For a period of time, when I was working at a steak house called Texas Roadhouse, we had a juke box that played non stop country music! Since I was working about five to six hours a day, I got into liking a little bit of country music such as Shania Twain, etc.
Now, I listen to not a whole lot of variety, but I listen to pop, hip hop, R&B, and sometimes a little bit of country.

Forever by Chris Brown is one of my top five because first off, I LOVE CHRIS BROWN. Also, during my senior trip to Disneyland, this song was playing non stop on our bus and when we got to Disneyland, it was playing non stop too! This song is very relaxing. If you listen to this song you tend to forget about everything else and just get lost in it. It's AMAZING!
4. Superbad - Sophia Fresh
Superbad by Sophia Fresh is one of my top fives because this song is based on one of my favorite movies called Superbad. That movie is hilarious! Plus this song SLAPS!

2. I Wanna Know - Joe
I wanna know by Joe is one of my top two because this song was dedicated to me by my boyfriend. One day when my boyfriend and I were driving home from his house to mine and this song came on then he suddenly pulled up at a empty Target parking lot and got out of the car and pulled me out and started dancing with me. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.
1. Two Occasions - Babyface
Two Occasions by Babyface is my numero uno song because it is mine and my boyfriend's song! Ever since we started going out on March 21, 2005 he selected this song and told me it was our song. It kind of just came to us. I love what Babyface talks about in this song. About how madly in love he is and how he constantly things about his significant other. Just like me and my boyfriend :)

A little tip
I am the type of person that is usually very organized. I can't work if the environment that I'm in is messy! If your "study space" is well organized, it can really affect the way you present your work. I suggest that before you start working on your tasks, you make a to do list. It usually helps. It will keep you on task and you will not tend to forget about little things such as add ons. Follow my tip and you will soon succeed ;)

my first time ;)

i am thee lovely Marion. i have never blogged before so here i go..i currently attend SJSU as a bio major. i someday hope to be a pediatrician. my bday is July 25, 1990 &i just barely turned 18. i was born in Laguna, Philippines but was raised in Union City, California. many people who have met me think i'm either half mexican, hawaiian or sometimes even polynesian. both my mom & dad are Filipino which makes me 100% Filipino. i have one older brother that is 19 years old, a younger sister that is turning five in december, and another younger sister that is turning one this december. i am hoping to be a pediatrician someday because when i was in the 5th grade i encountered a life and death situation. i was put in the hospital for about three months due to a rare case. Until this day my doctors from Children's Hospital of Oakland still can't identiify what exactly happened to me. when they performed my first surgery, they took my appendix out. soon after, i still had stomach pains. as a result, i had another surgery which they cleaned out my whole stomach. my doctors concluded that my lymph nodes caught a virus (tuberculosis) and it ruptured in my stomach. till this day i still have a big scar on the bottom right hand side of my tummy. i was to be a pediatrician to be able to help children in need like when i needed help. i love playing waterpolo. i played all of my four years in high school. i also enjoy working out and swimming. i dont listen to different varieties of music except for pop, r&b, and oldies. rock music isnt really my thing. i am familiar with some rock musicians such as the beetles and the rolling stones but im not too fond of their music. i really dont listen to rock music now a days either.
